rofessions are used to round out your character
in World of Warcraft. These are the professions that will let you participate in the dynamic
economy of World of Warcraft.
In the World of Warcraft, there are two types of professions, primary and secondary. Every player may
have as many Secondary Professions as he or she desires but will only be able to choose two Primary Professions.
All professions also fall into three categories: gathering, production and service.
- Gathering professions support production professions by providing the resources needed to make items.
- Production professions allow you to actually create the items that everyone will want to buy from you. However, some items cannont be sold and are designed only to be used by the one who made them.
- Service professions are valuable skills to learn that will aid players in their adventures. Although no goods are produced with service professions.
In general, most gathering professions will have an associative professions (like a second stage): herbalism to alchemy, mining to blacksmithing, etc.
ach skill is divided into four different levels, each level being more expensive to purchase.
You can learn all of the secondary skills, but can only master two different professions.
(Professions can be "untrained".)
To learn a new profession a player must visit a profession trainer. Once the profession is learned the player then
has the chance to improve his abilities in that profession through use.
For exemple, after learning Mining I the player can then increase his skill in mining up to a level of 75 (through practice).
To learn Mining II, your Mining I needs to be at least level 50, once learned, you can increase the maximum level of the mining skill to 150 (through practice).
To learn Mining III, your Mining II needs to be at least level 125, once learned, you can increase the maximum level of the mining skill to 225 (through practice).
And finally, to purchase Mining IV, your Mining III needs to be level 200, once learned, Mining IV ups the total skill level possible to 300.
Along with each profession level come different titles. Apprentice, Journeyman, Expert and Artisan
of whatever skill the player chooses.
In order to prevent low level characters from mastering high level skills, a certain character level
limit is required for each level of profession. You will need a minimum character level to learn a new
level of professions. Apprentice requires level 5, Journeyman level 10, Expert level 20 and Artisan requires level 35.
The title of Artisan also requires a quest to be archived.

ne of the main difference between professions in World of Warcraft and other MMORPGs is the fact that
there is zero chance of failure. The time sinks involved in leveling different professions come from
a number of factors: location, materials, and crafting difficulty. Certain recipes may only be craftable
in certain locations. Finding the materials needed for the recipe at hand can also be difficult, and may
require the assistance of other players of different skillsets. And finally, difficulty. There
are different levels of difficulty when crafting. A level 3 Blacksmith is no longer going to earn
crafting levels for making basic items, but will have to earn his experience grafting high
level magical weapons and armor if he wants to keep gaining experience.
ou received a mission from a Human Warrior, seeking to
quest in the more dangerous parts of Azeroth, that consist of
forging a powerful weapon for his use. As one of the most celebrated Human weaponsmiths in Stormwind,
you are used to this sort of request. What is unusual, though, are the four pieces of jade
(a useful and rare material) the Warrior is willing to trade for your work. And so you set yourself
to the forge and begin the process of creating a deadly Frost Tiger Blade which require the following
ingredients to be forged:
- 8 Steel Bars
- 2 Strong Flux
- 1 Frost Oil
- 2 Jade
- 3 Heavy Grinding Stones
s a weaponsmith, you maintain a stock of iron
ore and grinding stones (needed to polish and
sharpen the weapon to a fine razor's edge). You take a quick trip to the forge to smelt the
iron ore and coal into steel bars. A nearby merchant sells the strong flux that removes impurities
from the steel. To fill out the ingredients list, you make your way to an Alchemist, but
unfortunately you learn that he requires the herb Wintersbite to make Frost Oil for you. So,
to acquire the Wintersbite herb, you trade a stack of sharpening stones to your friend, who
happens to be an Herbalist, and then you give the Wintersbite to the Alchemist, who then concocts
the arcane Frost Oil for you.
Now the ingredients are complete, and you forge the weapon, confident that there will be no
failure and that the Frost Tiger Blade will be born from the rare ingredients used to create
it. Thrilled with your work, the Human Warrior leaves the remaining jade with you in payment.
