World of Warcraft Transportation FAQ
Are there mounts in World of Warcraft?
Yes.
What kind of mounts are there?
Each race has a specific mount it can ride. Humans ride horses, Orcs ride wolves, Dwarves ride battle rams, Night Elves ride nightsabre panthers, and Undead ride nightmares (demonic horses). Troll and Gnome mounts have not been revealed yet. Tauren has the ability (Plains Running) to run at the speed of a mount instead of having an actual mount.
How do you summon your mount to you?
Right now, mounts are kept in the player's backpack and are summoned by clicking on them.
Can I fight while riding a mount?
No, you can't.
Would a lower level player be able to buy a mount?
Probably not, mounts are meant for high level characters.
Will there be rare mounts with some sort of special abilities?
There will be mounts that are difficult to obtain but they will only look different, instead of having special abilities.
Will there be other ways to travel?
Yes, you will also be able to travel by boat, gryphon transport and zeppelin.
How does gryphon transport work?
When you talk to one of the many gryphon masters scattered throughout the world a menu will come up with a list of gryphon masters you have already visited. After you choose where you want to fly you pay a fee and the gryphon will fly you there automatically.
Do I get to control the gryphon while it's flying?
No, the gryphon follows a programmed course.
Can I own a gryphon or any flying mount?
No.
Will there be separate flying mounts for different races?
Yes. Humans, Dwarves and Gnomes ride gryphons, Night Elves ride hyppogryphs, Orcs, Tauren and Trolls ride wind runners (wyverns), and Undead ride an unnamed bat look-a-like creature.
