World of Warcraft Transportation Method

Introduction

World of Warcraft Traveling long distances by foot

Walking or Running

At the beginning of the game, you'll only be able to explore the lands of Azeroth with your own two feet. Although not as fast as a mount, you will get to experience the rich environments to the fullest. As you gain levels and uncover more and more of the world, you'll gain access to the other modes of transportation.

Swimming

You will be able to swim and there will be underwater enviroments to explore and fight in.

Mounts

When you reach level 40, you'll be able to ride mounts. You can acquire a mount through purchase, or from questing. Mounts will provide a bonus to armor, and speed. Through secondary skill specialization, you'll be able to ride the mounts of other races. Here is the list of mounts:
  • Dwarves - Battle Rams
  • Gnomes - Mechano-Striders
  • Humans - Warhorses
  • Night Elves - Nightsaber
  • Orcs - Dire Wolves
  • Tauren - Kodos
  • Trolls - Raptor
  • Undead - Undead Horse, Undead warlocks will also be able to summon Nightmares later on in the game.
Warhorses
Warhorses were typically used by human Knights and Paladins during the three major wars in the world of Warcraft. Noble heroes charging into battle, wielding courage and bravery as much as any hammer or sword. The most powerful ranks of magi have also been know to ride warhorses.

Dire Wolves
In the book, "Lord of the Clans", wolf companions are seen as more than just rideable animals, but as companions on a journey with an almost symbiotic relationship with their masters. The book describes Thrall's exodus to the cold mountains where he befriended his wolf-companion. Wolves were used in the first war against humanity and as building attack parties in the third. The wolves symbolized for the Orcish clan a tribal unity, one which has only recently been reclaimed.

Battle Rams
Since the dwarves and gnomes are smaller in size than the other races they ride on Battle Rams. They might not be as big as other mounts but they get the job done.

Nightsaber
Remember that large cat the Priestess of the Moon in Warcraft III used to ride on? That is what Night Elves will be able to use as their mount.

Undead Horse
The Undead ride undead horse and undead warlocks can ride Nightmares later on in the game.

Nightmare
The Undead warlocks ride on demonic creatures known as Nightmares later on in the game.

Flying Mount

For a fee, you can ride a flying mount for fast, taxi-service style travel along set routes that your character has already traversed. While riding, you'll be able to look down and see the players or creeps in that area. There are four confirmed types of flying mounts:
  • Gryphons - ridden by Dwarves, Gnomes, and Humans.
  • Wind Runners - ridden by Orcs, Tauren, and Trolls.
  • Hippogryphs - ridden by Night Elves.
  • Giant Bats - ridden by Undead.

Items

You will be able to teleport yourself using a Teleportation Scroll or increase your running speed using a Speed increasing potion.

Vehicles

You will be able to use certain mechanical vehicles, even if World of Warcraft is set in medieval times.
  • Zepplins
  • Boats
In World of Warcraft, there will be scattered ports for ships to travel to. Boats will cost a fee, but on them players can enjoy different activities such as gambling, mini-games, or even get attacked by pirates or monsters.

Magic or Ritual

You will be able to travel the world with some help of magic. Spells or skills that might come in aid include:
  • Ability enchanting buffs.
  • A sprint/run skill.
In addition, Mages will have the power to open portals to different locations when they reach a high level. This will allow instant teleportation to other lands.
